Bengaluru airport on high alert over Mpox outbreak: Testing, 21-day quarantine for passengers – Agency

“KIA is fully prepared and is adhering to all health and safety protocols issued by relevant authorities in light of the global Mpox situation. All international passengers arriving at the airport are being thoroughly checked for elevated temperatures as part of the screening process,” a spokesperson for Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) told the media. Meanwhile, a case of monkeypox has been identified in India. The 26-year-old man from Haryana was admitted to LNJP hospital after showing symptoms. His health condition is currently stable, according to reports. The case identified in India is not the notorious Clade 1b strain of the monkeypox virus which is said to be the virulent form of the virus. The clade 1b variant has been identified in countries where monkeypox has not been seen before.
On August 14, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared monkeypox a public health emergency.
So far, only one case of monkeypox has been identified in India. Meanwhile, another suspected case of monkeypox was identified at Karachi's Jinnah International Airport on Saturday. According to details, a traveller who arrived on a PIA flight from Jeddah had symptoms resembling monkeypox.
Monkeypox is a viral disease caused by the monkeypox virus. Initially identified in primates, it can be transmitted to humans through direct contact with infected animals or through person-to-person contact with bodily fluids, respiratory droplets, or contaminated materials.

Symptoms of monkeypox include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes. The disease usually resolves on its own within a few weeks, but severe cases can occur. Public health measures focus on isolation, infection control, and outbreak surveillance.
