Poland's longest river, the Vistula, reached a record high in the capital on Sunday due to drought, the national meteorological agency reported.
Its level at a measuring station in Warsaw fell to 25 centimetres (10 inches), surpassing the previous record by one centimetre, according to the IMGW meteorological institute.
“It's worse than in 2015… and the water is still going down!” the institute added on X, formerly Twitter.
“We have been suffering from a water drought in Poland for some time now. There has been a permanent drought since 2015,” he explained.
He said climate change was to blame, as milder winters with less snow coupled with fewer rainy days and higher temperatures are driving down water levels.
The Vistula, the EU member's longest river at more than 1,000 kilometres (621 miles), divides the country in two and flows into the Baltic Sea.
