Hideo Kojima celebrated the ninth anniversary of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain by noting that he did basically everything related to the game and its promotion.
Somehow, yesterday, September 1st, marked the ninth anniversary of the release of Metal Gear Solid 5. To mark the occasion, game director Kojima took to Twitter to remind everyone that he did a lot more than just direct the game itself: he also made “promotional videos,” “trailers, key art, packaging,” and “concepts, designs, checks.”

“It includes everything. That's my style,” Kojima adds, concluding the above tweet. Kojima has long been known for personally editing his games' trailers, so I doubt there's anyone who doesn't already know that information. Fewer people may know that he also oversees things like “concepts” and “review.”
Not content with just one tweet, Kojima adds the following tweet right below it, in which he reveals that “it’s hard to do all of this while making the game at the same time,” but he believes this is “part of my job.” Lastly, as if doing all of that wasn’t enough, Kojima also oversees all of the merchandising surrounding his games, which is definitely not a common role for a game director.

So there you have it: Kojima did “everything,” or almost, for the final mainline Metal Gear Solid title. Maybe, when Metal Gear Solid 5’s 10th anniversary rolls around in 2025, the game director will finally reveal some cut content related to The Phantom Pain. Lord knows the Metal Gear community has waited long enough.
