Today's NYT Connections (Set #445): The Answers
The answers to today's Connections game, number 445, are…
- YELLOW: TYPES OF PIANOS ELECTRONIC, TAIL, PLAYER, VERTICAL
- GREEN: CONSIDER CONSIDER, COUNT, JUDGE, TAKE INTO ACCOUNT
- BLUE: US UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES BROWN, DUKE, HOWARD, SMITH
- PURPLE: SECOND NAMES IN COMPANIES WITH AMPERSANDS GAME, JOHNSON, NOBLE, YOUNG
- My rating: Hard
- My rating: Fail
Yeah, okay, this was way too hard for me. This is my fifth connection error in the last 12 days, which implies that either I'm not very good at this or this game has gotten harder recently. I don't really have any complaints here, other than the blue “universities” group is very, very difficult for those players who aren't in the US, like me. I saw BROWN and DUKE, but I didn't know about any other possibilities and just blindly guessed until I lost.
Purple was even more difficult. Again, I saw a couple of options in JOHNSON (& Johnson) and (Proctor &) GAMBLE, but NOBLE and YOUNG… didn’t stand a chance. I now realize that NOBLE must be related to BARNES &, but I still don’t know much about YOUNG.
To make matters worse, even yellow and green were quite difficult. I have yet to lose a word in nearly 1000 games, but Connections is a completely different matter – this game is very demanding.

What is NYT Connections?
The plus side is that you don't technically need to solve the last one, as you'll be able to answer it by process of elimination. Plus, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a bit of wiggle room.
However, it is a bit more complex than something like Wordle and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trick you with tricks. For example, beware of homophones and other wordplay that could disguise the answers.
It can be played for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile devices.
